First week done!
It's Sunday evening, and I am busy planning your 2nd virtual week of classes. I have enjoyed reading your responses to the assignments you have turned in, and I have enjoyed how thoughtful you have been about the issues of nutrition and food insecurity and malnutrition in general.
We did not meet live in class this past week, but we will this week. We will practice some FRQ techniques and questions, as that is what the APES exam will entail this year. I am sending you the google meet codes through REMIND, so I hope you get the message. Please know that you can ask questions during class, and you can contact me during help session hours. I am working as quickly as I can to give you helpful feedback on what you are doing.
I am very impressed and proud of your engagement thus far. A large majority of you are tuned in and paying attention and turning in assignments. I know these are stressful times, and I am glad you engaging in the work we have left to do. Many classes across the country are just reviewing for the AP exam, but since we work on semesters we have more curriculum to finish, and I hope you can get some valuable knowledge from what we are doing.
The current pandemic is also related to our current APES unit. Since we are discussing agriculture and raising animals for food, pay attention to the many news stories that are coming out about how zoonotic diseases like COVID-19 may be spread through animal markets, wet markets, factory farming situations, and other situations where animals and people are coming into close contact. I would be interested in what you think about this.
This week we will discuss mining, urbanization, urban sprawl, ecological footprints, and more! Stay tuned!
